New Cagayan de Oro City Government Complex Rising Soon in Uptown CDO

What if the next major landmark in Uptown CDO is not a mall or condo project, but the city’s future seat of government? That is exactly why this project is drawing attention. Recent local reporting says the proposed New Cagayan de Oro City Government Complex will rise at the intersection of SM Bypass Road and Zayas–Canitoan Road in Uptown Cagayan de Oro. The site covers about 22.9 hectares and is planned to include an 8-storey executive building, a 4-storey legislative building, a car park and commercial area, and a sports facility.

The bigger issue this project aims to solve is congestion and long-term capacity. Reports say the complex is being positioned to help decongest the current City Hall, which has served as the city’s seat of governance for about 85 years. The proposed new complex is also described as incorporating green building features, signaling a more modern and sustainability-oriented civic center for the city.

For CDO, this is more than just another building announcement. It reflects the broader shift of growth toward Uptown development corridors, where city planning has already identified expanded development areas in the updated land-use direction. That gives this project added weight as both a governance move and a city-shaping investment.
