Kalambaguhan–Vamenta Bridge: New Landmark in CDO 2025

The Kalambaguhan–Vamenta Bridge and Access Road is one of the most anticipated infrastructure projects in Cagayan de Oro City, poised to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the Cagayan de Oro River. Spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 10, this ₱1.22 billion project is strategically designed to link Kalambaguhan Street in the downtown area to Vamenta Boulevard in Barangay Carmen—two major thoroughfares that are currently separated by the river and overly reliant on existing bridges like the JR Borja and Marcos Bridges. Once completed, this new bridge will offer a faster, more efficient route for commuters, students, businesses, and emergency services traversing the eastern and western sides of the city.

Measuring approximately 200 meters in length, the Kalambaguhan–Vamenta Bridge features modern engineering and structural design that is expected to withstand high volumes of traffic while also contributing to the city’s urban aesthetic. The bridge is also planned to seamlessly connect with Rio de Oro Boulevard, enabling smoother transitions from the downtown core to uptown communities, schools like Liceo de Cagayan University, and commercial hubs across the river. As of mid-2025, progress on the bridge is visibly underway, with pile-driving operations, pier construction, and groundwork in full swing. Photos and videos shared by DPWH Region 10 and local infrastructure watchdogs show steady development, with two pier columns on the Kalambaguhan side already completed and further work being done on foundation supports.

This bridge project forms part of a broader urban improvement strategy for Cagayan de Oro, aimed at future-proofing the city against rapid urbanization and vehicular growth. It complements other major infrastructure initiatives such as the Consolacion–Kauswagan Bridge, Macasandig–Manresa Bridge, and road-widening projects across the city’s key corridors. By offering a new crossing option, the Kalambaguhan–Vamenta Bridge will help decongest existing bridges that are currently operating beyond capacity during peak hours, thus reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and vehicle wear and tear.

Beyond traffic solutions, the bridge is expected to unlock new economic opportunities. With better access to Barangay Carmen, commercial developments, real estate projects, and local businesses are likely to flourish, spurred by increased foot and vehicular traffic. Residents and investors can also expect a boost in land values and improved accessibility to schools, hospitals, and job centers. From a safety and mobility perspective, the bridge adds a vital alternate route for emergency vehicles, especially during flooding or high-volume traffic scenarios. As Cagayan de Oro continues to grow as Northern Mindanao’s economic hub, infrastructure like the Kalambaguhan–Vamenta Bridge plays a key role in ensuring that mobility keeps pace with development.

In summary, the Kalambaguhan–Vamenta Bridge stands as a symbol of progress and smart city planning in Cagayan de Oro. Backed by a solid budget, strategic design, and the vision of DPWH Region 10, it not only promises improved travel and traffic management but also contributes to economic growth and quality of life. As construction continues into 2025, this iconic bridge is shaping up to be a major landmark and a crucial piece of CDO’s future-ready transport network.
